conservation
Saturn Construction believes strongly in resource and energy conservation, and building for longevity. We feel it is our mandate as a builder in today’s world to use responsible building technologies and ensure efficient use of materials. Paramount to our clients, resource and energy efficiency not only results in a healthy building to inhabit that has low impact on the land, but in lower operating costs for the long-term.
We encourage several ways of minimizing home energy costs, of which a well-insulated structure is standard. To this end, we assume the maximum amount of insulation in our estimates and prioritize tight weather seals for all windows and doors. The client may choose to incorporate solar technology, or consider strategically placing windows during design to maximize solar gains and truly offset utility costs. And a basic measure for all homeowners is to consider appliances with the highest energy efficiency rating, such as the water heater, furnace, refrigerator, washer and dryer.
Responsible use of resources can be addressed by selecting appropriate key building materials for the structure during the project development phase. Instances of this include choosing reclaimed timber for decorative features, or using FSC-certified, rot resistant timber or engineered lumber in exposed portions of the structure. Regardless of the materials used in a project, we order them judiciously and work with the utmost care to prevent waste. Saturn’s construction waste is recycled and disposed of properly.
